Statue of Tripura’s last Maharaja unveiled by PM
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a statue of Tripura’s last ruler, Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya, at the city Airport which was renamed after him in July 2018.
- Modi unveiled the 7.5-foot-high, fibre glass statue, designed and built by the faculty and students of Tripura government’s Art and Craft College at a cost of Rs 5 lakh.
- Unveiling of the late Maharaja’s statue is in line with the Union government’s policy of honouring the unsung heroes of India, who have contributed greatly to nation building.

- It is located 20 km north of the capital along the Bangladesh border.
- It is the second busiest in northeastern India and provides crucial air connectivity in the region linking Kolkata and other major airports in the country.
- The Airports Authority of India has undertaken a Rs 438-crore project to upgrade the airport to international standards by providing world-class facilities.
Assam CM presents Anundoram Barooah Award
- Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal presented laptops as part of the Anundoram Barooah Award to students who obtained 75 per cent or above marks in the High School Leaving Certificate, High Madrassa, Senior Madrassa, Sanskrit Pravesika and Pali Examinations, 2018.
- The awards were presented at a programme held at Sarusajai Stadium, in which a total of 20,720 students across the State would be awarded laptops under the programme.
- Along with laptops, the Anundoram Barooah Award provides a free two-year internet connection with Wi-Fi dongle, two subscriptions of academic content for classes XI and XII, online learning, coaching of score improvement system for science stream, etc.

- It was launched by the Govt. of Assam in the year 2005 with the sole aim of enhancing healthy competition amongst the student community and to help them to enrich their perception through up-to-date knowledge and information with the help of IT education.
- Looking at the present scenario of the innate potentialities of the IT industry, the Government of Assam has made an effort to promote IT education through this unique scheme.

Sangeet Natak Akademi Award was conferred to RamkrishnaTalukdar
- Sattriya exponent RamkrishnaTalukdar has been conferred the SangeetNatakAkademi Award for his contribution in the field of Sattriya dance by President Ram NathKovind.
- A total of 42 artistes were awarded in different categories for the year 2017. Nine artistes received awards for their contribution in the field of dance, among which Ramkrishna Talukdar was also one of the awardees.
- The other two eminent personalities who were also awarded are Nuruddin Ahmed for stage craft and Jagannath Bayan for traditional music Khol from Assam.
FACTFILE – SangeetNatakAkademiPuraskar
- Akademi Award is an award given by the SangeetNatakAkademi, India’s National Academy of Music, Dance & Drama.
- It is the highest Indian recognition given to practicing artists.
- The award consisted of Rs. 1,00,000, a citation, an angavastram (a shawl), and a tamrapatra (a brass plaque).
- The awards are given in the categories of music, dance, theatre, other traditional arts and puppetry, and for contribution/scholarship in performing arts.
The State-level science-based competitions at Regional Science Centre
- The State-level science-based competitions of Aryabhatta Science Centre, Assam was held at the Regional Science Centre, Khanapara.
- Selected child scientists from all the districts of Assam participated in the State- level meet which was inaugurated by Hemen Das, Secretary, Department of Science & Technology, Assam.
