Assam state school receives UNESCO MGIEP award
  • NPS International School was awarded by UNESCO MGIEP as a part of the International Youth Campaign on Kindness for the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • UNESCO awarded the students with equipments worth more than Rs 1 lakh for creating 360º media. The organisations which have collaboratively awarded NPS are UNESCO, Facebook–Oculus, Digital Promise and UN SDG Action Campaign.
  • NPS students made a 4-minute film using 360 degree equipments based on the award-winning project which was done by them in 2016 – ‘Save the Turtles of Assam’.
  • NPS students have been closely working on the 17 SDGs since the last few years and this award from UNESCO is a plume in their beret.
  • For shooting the 360 degrees film, the team revisited the temples where they had done their project and highlighted the positive changes during the last 2 years due to their initiative.
  • The members of the temple management committee congratulated the efforts of the NPS students for their thoughtfulness.
  • The documentary was screened at the UNESCO MGIEP office in New Delhi on October 2 and will also be screened at the United Nations General Assembly in New York this month in the presence of the UN Secretary General.
  • The 360 degrees video was appreciated by all the dignitaries present at the UNESCO office on October 2.

CM Sonowal lays foundation stones for 28 roads in Majuli
  • Chief Minister SarbanandaSonowal laid the foundation stones for 28 pucca roads to be constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram SadakYojana (PMGSY) across Majuli island district.
  • Sonowal, who was on a day’s tour to his constituency, laid the foundation stones at two functions – one for 11 roads under the Majuli Development Block area and another for 17 roads under the Upper Majuli Development Block area.
  • The government has sanctioned Rs 59.51 crore for the 28 roads, the total length of which will be 76.51 km.
  • Sonowal directed the PWD to keep a close watch on the progress of the works to ensure quality and directed the department to complete all the 28 roads within March 31, 2019.
  • The Chief Minister also said that the government will soon sanction funds to construct another 57 roads on the island.

Seven oilfields in Assam leased out to private Companies
  • Under the Discovered Small Field Policy of the Central government, seven oilfields in the State have been leased out to private companies.
  • During the bidding process, the Ramanya Ispat Pvt Ltd has bagged the Barsilla and Dipling PML blocks, the Oil Max Energy Pvt Ltd has bagged the Duarmara and Charaideo PML blocks, Vijoyshree Industries Pvt Ltd got the Laxmijan PML block, IOCL has clinched the Jeriapathar PML block, while Mega Engineering and Infrastructure Pvt Ltd got the Patharia PML block.
  • Assam state government has got a royalty of Rs 1,700 crore from Oil India Limited and ONGC , during the last financial year, while outstanding royalty amount on crude oil is Rs 3390.22 crore.
  • Assam has estimated crude oil reserves of 200 million metric tonnes and Natural gas reserves of 102815 million cubic metre, which is expected to last 55 years and 49 years, respectively.
  • Coal reserves of 320 million metric tonne (mmt) are expected to last a century and limestone reserves of 650 mmt would last for two century.
  • Assam also has reserve of China clay, iron ore, glass sand, sillimanite, granite and fuller’s earth but their mining has not started till now.

Odisha CM launches Nirman Kusuma Yojana
  • Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday launched the “Nirman Kusuma Yojana” to provide financial assistance to children of construction workers for pursuing technical education.
  • The government will bear cent per cent financial cost for the children to study in government ITIs and engineering diploma institutions.
  • Under the scheme the government provides Rs 23 600 financial assistance to each student for pursuing an ITI course.
  • It gives Rs 26 300 financial assistance for pursuing polytechnic and diploma courses in government institutions.
  • A total of Rs 1.09 crore financial assistance has been deposited in the bank accounts of 1 878 beneficiaries for the 2018-19 academic session.
  • The financial assistance given to the daughters of the registered workers for pursuing education from class six to Post Graduation (PG) has been enhanced by 20 per cent.
  • Besides the ex gratia amount for the death of registered construction workers has also been doubled.

Uttarakhand got investment proposals worth Rs 70,000 crore

  • Uttarakhand has got Investment proposals worth over Rs 70,000 crore have been received and most of the memorandum of understandings have been signed with an aim to to reach development to the state’s hilly areas.
  • Among the investment proposals, the Adani Group has committed the largest sum of Rs 6,500 crore. The group plans to invest Rs 5,000 crore in a metro rail project, and Rs 1,000 crore to upgrade power transmission. It will create a logistics park at Rs 500 crore.
  • The state government has identified 12 sectors for focussed investments. These include wellness and AYUSH, pharmaceuticals, information technology, horticulture and floriculture, natural fibres, tourism and hospitality, film shooting, biotechnology, renewable energy, food processing and automobile.
