Manipur will host the North East Olympic Games at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex of Imphal from October 24 to 28.
Approximately 2,000 sportspersons from the North Eastern States are expected to take part in the games.
The game will have 12 different disciplines including archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, football, judo, karate, shooting, table tennis, taekwondo, weightlifting and wushu.

India’s Vice President Venkaiah Naidu visited the Jain Temple in the Belgian port city of Antwerp on 20^th October where he addressed the Indian community.
The event, organised by the members of Indian Association in Belgium and the Jain Culture Centre.
Naidu began his address by mentioning the contributions and sacrifices made by Indian soldiers who fought alongside their Belgian counterparts during the First World War.
He praised the Indian community and their contributions to the continued success of Belgium as the hub of global diamond trade and towards the prosperity of the Belgian economy.
The Indian Diaspora in Antwerp mostly came from Palanpur in Gujarat and contributes 80 per cent of the Belgium’s global diamond trade.
After the community event, the Vice President visited the Office of the Governor of Belgium to pay floral homage to the bust of Mahatma Gandhi.

There are about 7,000 people of Indian origin in Belgium.
A section of immigrants from Palanpur district in Gujarat entered the port city of Antwerp to work with the Jewish community in the diamond business, and eventually started their own.
Indian software companies like Aricent, HCL, TCS, Daffodil Software Ltd and Infosys have a presence in Belgium.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the National Police Memorial (NPM) in New Delhi to the nation in recognition of the sacrifices made by police personnel since India’s independence.
Every year, 21 October is observed as the Police Commemoration Day in memory of the 10 policemen killed in an ambush by Chinese troops in 1959 in Ladakh’s Hot Spring area.

FACTFILE – National Police Memorial , New Delhi

The National Police Memorial has been erected on 6.12 acres of land in Chanakyapuri of New Delhi, at the northern end of Shanti Path. This memorial represents all state and central police organisations of the country.
The central sculpture of the National Police Memorial is made of a single piece of granite, weighing 238 tonnes. Its weight and colour symbolise the gravitas of the officers’ sacrifice.
A 60-foot long river at the base of the sculpture reflects the continuous service of the policeman and woman, to maintain peace and public order.

FACTFILE – BepiColombo Mission

BepiColombo joint mission of ESA and JAXA, comprises two satellites launched together viz. Mercury Planetary Orbiter (MPO) and Mio (Mercury Magnetospheric Orbiter, MMO).
The mission will do a comprehensive study of Mercury’s magnetic field, magnetosphere, and both interior and surface structure.
