Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced that the Education Ministry is in the process of establishing ‘PM Shri schools’ as the laboratory of NEP 2020. The schools will be fully equipped to prepare students for the future.

Maharashtra government has decided to make six Road Transport Office’ (RTO) services online. People, who need a permanent driving licence or verification for an international driving licence will need to go to the RTO. Maharashtra’s transport department provides 80 online services and now six more services have been included.

The Government has approved 8.1 per cent rate of interest on employees’ provident fund (EPF) deposits for the year 2021-22, from 8.5 per cent provided in the previous year. This EPF rate of interest is the lowest since 1977-78, when it stood at 8 per cent. The interest rate on EPF deposits was decided by the Central Board of Trustees (CBT) and was ratified by the finance ministry in 2021.

Denmark is set to join the European Union’s defence policy after it held a referendum for the decision. Denmark is the only EU member that is not part of the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP).

Denmark govt has succeeded in abolishing an exemption secured in a 1993 referendum on the Maastricht Treaty. Sweden and Finland also placed historic bids to join NATO, which will be taken up at the upcoming summit.

China successfully launched its third manned mission to its new space station, sending three astronauts to continue construction work for six months. China’s Manned Space Agency (CMSA) announced that the Shenzhou-14 spacecraft was launched by a Long March 2F rocket.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the National Tribal Research Institute in New Delhi as part of the celebrations of the Azadi Ka Amrit festival.

The National Tribal Research Institute (NTRI) will provide the tribal communities with necessary resources. NTRI will also provide policy inputs to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and State Welfare Departments for programs and studies that support the socio-economic aspects of the tribes.

India successfully tested the Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile Agni-4. The successful training launch was carried out from APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha.

Agni-4 is an Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile with a range of around 4,000 km. It was developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and can carry a 1,000-kg payload and can go as high as 900 km.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a global initiative Lifestyle for the Environment (LiFE) Movement, on the occasion of World Environment Day through video conferencing. The idea of LiFE was originally introduced by the Prime Minister during the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties COP-26 in Glasgow.

Reserve Bank of India (RBI)’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) decided to hike the Policy Repo Rate by 50 basis points to 4.9 per cent in its June 2022 meeting. The MPC members voted unanimously to hike rates and to continue the withdrawal of the accommodative stance. RBI’s MPC last month raised the repo rate by 40 basis points.

As Indian American Harini Logan wins Spelling Bee 2022. Spelling bee is a competition in which the contestants are asked to spell different words varying in degrees of difficulty. In the US Scripps National Spelling Bee competition held on June 2, 14 year old Harini Logan has clinched the winner’s title. This is her fourth time at the bee, she told the media. This year, a total of 234 participants or spellers from across the US and around the globe, came together to compete for the chance to be the Scripps National Spelling Bee champion.

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), on June 10, adopted an India-sponsored resolution on multilingualism which mentions the Hindi language. For the first time in history, the internal communication and dissemination of messages in the assembly will also take place in the Hindi language.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the enhancement of funding under Technology Development Fund (TDF) scheme to 50 crore rupees per project from 10 crore rupees.

In Union Budget 2022-23, 25 per cent of defence R&D budget was earmarked for private industry, start-ups and academia. The TDF scheme supports indigenous development of products and technologies by MSMEs and start-ups.

DAVINCI (Deep Atmosphere Venus Investigation of Noble gases, Chemistry, and Imaging) is a planned mission for an orbiter and atmospheric probe to the planet Venus. Together with the VERITAS mission, which will also study Venus, it was selected by NASA on 2 June 2021 to be part of their Discovery Program.
