CCEA Approved revised cost estimate for updation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved Revised Cost Estimates (RCE) of scheme of Updation of National Register of Citizens (NRC), 1951 in Assam. The NRC scheme is specific to Assam only and covers about 3.29 crore applicants.
The revised cost estimates exercise will help in preparation of final NRC in Assam. The proposed date for publication final NRC is set to 31 December 2018 .
NASA tested Advanced Supersonic Parachute Inflation Research Experiment of Mars
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) successfully conducted the test of the Advanced Supersonic Parachute Inflation Research Experiment (ASPIRE) of the Mars landing parachute for possible future missions in March 2018.
The parachute was launched in Virginia on the Black Brant IX sounding rocket from Wallops Flight Facility of NASA. The test was conducted with an objective to know all the conditions that a spacecraft would be experiencing during the entry, descent and landing (EDL) on the Red Planet.
India became the second largest producer of Crude Steel
According to Steel Users Federation of India (SUFI), India has overtaken Japan to become world’s second largest producer of crude steel in February 2018.
China is the largest producer of crude steel in the world, accounting for more than 50% of the production. Earlier in 2015, India had overtaken US to become third largest producer of crude steel.

Assam to set up Medical College in Lakhimpur
Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal declared to set up medical college at Lakhimpur, a centre for Indian Council of Agriculture Research at Gogamukh, a cultural university at Majuli, a sports university at Chabua, An engg. college at Dhemaji and a cancer hospital at Lakhimpur.
Saudi Arabia to screen cinema after 35 years
Saudi Arabia will open its first cinema in over 35 years on April 18 as part of a deal with the world’s biggest cinema chain AMC to open up to 40 theatres in some 15 Saudi cities.
The Saudi Ministry of Culture and Information granted on Wednesday the first licence to America’s AMC to operate a theatre. The past year witnessed the start of a huge drive to bring entertainment to Saudi Arabia as part of Vision 2030.According to Saudi Gazette, about 350 movie theatres with over 2,500 screens will be opened by 2030.
Haryan’s Shivangi to be the youngest Indian woman aim to scale Mt Everest
The teenager from Hisar in Haryana will begin her climb to the summit in mid-May. Shivangi will leave for Lukla, the gateway to the Mount Everest, after obtaining a climbing permit from the Department of Tourism.
