Varanasi City to go wireless under IPDS
Former Union minister of state for power and coal Piyush Goyal had announced the Rs 432-crore project under IPDS in June 2015.PM Narendra Modi launched the Rs 45,000-crore IPDS for the country in Varanasi in September 2015.Atul Nigam, MD of Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, said revenue losses have been reduced to 9.9% from 42.7% after putting cables underground.Overhead power cables in Varanasi are being removed to lay underground lines.
Powergrid is the company handling the integrated power development scheme (IPDS) project. So far 16 sq-km for 50,000 consumers through congested markets has been completed.Varanasi had got electricity eighty-six years ago.
Himachal Pradesh is organised 46th All India Police Science Congress
The two-day 46th All India Police Science Congress organised by the Himachal Pradesh Police Department and The Bureau of Police Research and Development began in Himachal Pradesh. It began with a clarion call to the police by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur to stay ahead of criminals by using technology to prevent and detect crime.
Naipunya Ratham (A multi utility Vehicle) launched by Andhra Pradesh
The Government of Andhra Pradesh has recently launched “NAIPUNYA RATHAM” a multi-utility vehicle which aims to bring technology to the remote corners. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced that the Government will roll out 12 more Naipunya Rathams by May this year.
Naipunya Rathaams will facilitate and look to improve digital literacy, digital skills and create an awareness on various government schemes.

800 crore Chandrayaan-2 mission to be launched by ISRO
ISRO chairman Dr K Sivan said, Since the ongoing tests for the lunar mission will take 20 more days, the April 23rd date could not be met. Therefore the panel decided for an October launch.Indian Space Research Organisation is getting ready to launch the Chandrayaan-2 mission in October 2018. The mission was originally scheduled for a launch on April 23, but will now be launched in the first week of October.
If ISRO launches the mission in May to September, it won’t be able to utilize the full lunar day (14 Earth days) for experiments on the moon because of eclipses and other reasons. Therefore, ISRO will launch the mission in the first week of October.
The Rs 800-crore Chandrayaan-2 mission is a totally indigenous mission. Once the GSLV-F10 put the spacecraft in the 170 km x 20,000 km elliptical orbit, the orbiter would be maneuvered towards the 100-km lunar orbit by firing thrusters and then the lander housing the rover will separate from the orbiter. During the 14 Earth days, the six-wheeled rover will have the power to move around 100-200 meters. A high-intensity camera, on the rover will observe the lunar surface and take images of the moon. The rover camera will send back data to the Earth via the orbiter within 15 minutes that will be useful for analysis of the lunar soil.
Highest no. of Beggars in West Bengal
As per the data released by Union ministry of Social Justice, there are around 4 lakh beggars in total. The government has come out with the total number of beggars in the country. The highest number of beggars, 81,000, are in West Bengal. West Bengal is followed by Uttar Pradesh and Bihar at number two and three respectively. Lakshadweep, a union territory, has only two people begging for their livelihood.
Chipko Movement 45th Anniversary marked by Google Doodle
This movement began in 1973 in Uttar Pradesh and was an initiative of Sunderlal Bahuguna, a renowned environmentalist. During the 18th century movement, as many as 363 people are said to have sacrificed their lives to save ‘khejri’ trees.
‘Google Doodle’ marks the 45th anniversary of the forest conservation initiative on 26 march called the Chipko Movement.
J S Rajput appointed Representative to the EXB of UNESCO
The Government of India has decided to nominate Professor J S Rajput, former Director NCERT, as India’s representative to the Executive Board (EXB) of UNESCO. Professor J S Rajput is an eminent educationist with rich experience in various fields including UNESCO. The EXB has a four-year term of office and 58 seats. The executive board is one of the constitutional organs of UNESCO and is elected by the General Conference.
