Indias First Mega Coastal Economic Zone to come up in Maharashtra

The Union Government has given the go-ahead for setting up India’s first mega coastal economic zone (CEZ) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Maharashtra as part of a plan to develop 14 such industrial clusters to spur manufacturing and generate jobs. About 45 companies across telecom, auto and IT sectors will soon bid for 200 hectares of land to set up manufacturing units in the zone. The plan envisages a total investment of Rs 15,000 crore in the first phase and creation of more than 1.5 lakh jobs.


Andhra Pradesh soon to get a Centre of Excellence on Space Sciences

Andhra Pradesh soon to get a Centre of Excellence in Space Sciences and Technologies. CANEUS International, a Canadian organization, will establish a Centre of Excellence on Space Sciences and Technologies for Development at Hindupur. The Coming up on 60 acres in Hindupur town of Anantapur district, the facility will create opportunities for 500 highly skilled direct jobs and over 1,000 indirect jobs.

A MoU was signed by the Andhra Pradesh government with CANEUS International. A tripartite agreement for setting up the facility was signed with the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB) and the Andhra Pradesh State Skills Development Corporation (APSSDC). It is is a unique non-profit organization of professionals involving public-private partnership, serving the needs of aeronautics, space and defence communities by fostering the coordinated, international development of micro-nano technologies for aerospace and defence applications.


Assam launches its first air ambulance for the public

The government of Assam inaugurated its first air ambulance of the state. It will operate from Guwahati airport. The air ambulance is equipped with all emergency medical equipment and medical team to take care of patients on board. Unveiling the service, State Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary hoped that the air ambulance service would usher in a new era of healthcare for the patients of Assam and Northeast. Delhi-based Flaps Aviation Private Limited will operate its air ambulance service from Guwahati with “Book Air Ambulance” as its brand. The aim is to expand this facility to the capitals of all states.


Union Cabinet approves setting up National Anti-profiteering Authority

The Union Cabinet Affairs approved setting up of National Anti-Profiteering Authority (NAA), an apex body with an overarching mandate under Goods and Services. It also approved the creation of posts of Chairman and Technical Members of National Anti-profiteering Authority (NAA) under GST regime.

The NAA is tasked with ensuring full benefits of reduction in tax on supply of goods or services flow to consumers. It is responsible for applying anti-profiteering measures in event of reduction GST rate on the supply of goods or services or if the benefit of input tax credit is not passed on to recipients.

Constitution of the NAA – The NAA will be headed by a senior officer of the level of Secretary to the Government of India. There will be four Technical Members from the Centre and/or the States.

President Ram Nath Kovind to inaugurate Manipur Sangai Festival

President Ram Nath Kovind reached Imphal to inaugurate the Manipur Sangai Festival, 2017 this afternoon. He was accorded a warm welcome at the Imphal Airport by State Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh and his cabinet colleagues. The 10-day state festival will be opened today at the Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre at Palace Compound in Imphal. He will open a two-day North-East Development Summit at the City Convention Centre in Imphal.  Around 20 memorandums of understanding (MoU) will be signed with investor companies during the Summit to attract investment in the State to generate employment avenues for the unemployed educated youths of the State.

FACTFILE – Sangai festival

  • It is an annual cultural festival organised by Manipur Tourism Department every year from November 21 to 30.
  • Even though many editions of this Festival has been celebrated over the past few years with the name of Tourism Festival, since 2010 this has been renamed as the Sangai Festival to stage the uniqueness of the shy and gentle brow-antlered deer popularly known as the Sangai Deer, which is the state animal of Manipur.
  • As this festival is being celebrated to promote Manipur as a world class tourism destination, it showcases the best of what the state has to offer to the world in terms of art and culture, handloom, handicrafts & fine arts, indigenous sports, cuisines & music, eco & adventure sports as well as the scenic natural beauty of the land.

Maharashtra Government to constitute Gender Budget Cells to effectively implement welfare schemes of women and children

Maharashtra government set to constitute ‘Gender Budget Cells’ for facilitating the coordination amongst other departments.

Maharashtra Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar announced the setting up of Gender Budget Cells. The inter-departmental committee would be set up among the concerned department to ensure better effective implementation of various schemes.

A nodal officer would be appointed in each administrative department to monitor the implementation of the schemes of WCD. Besides, evaluating quality improvement, the culture of evaluation should also take root in the administration.

At least 30% of allocations in various schemes of WCD like animal husbandry are earmarked for women.
