MHA Conducted Multi State Mega Mock Tsunami Exercise 2017
The Indian Tsunami Early Warning Centre (ITEWC) based at Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) had conducted “Multi-State Mega Mock Exercise of Tsunami for East Coast of India”. Participants in the drill included State Disaster Management Authorities of West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The mock drill was conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
Defence of Andaman & Nicobar Islands Exercise (DANX-17)
Defence of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Exercise (DANX) was conducted under the aegis of Andaman & Nicobar Command. The five day exercise started on 20 Nov 2017 and culminated on 24 Nov 2017.
Eighth edition of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit-2017 to be held at Hyderabad
The 8th edition of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit-2017 will be held from 28th to 30th November 2017 at Hyderabad. The summit is being co-hosted by India and the USA. For the first time, it is being held in South Asia.
The theme of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit-2017 is ‘Women First, Prosperity for All’. The main focus on supporting women entrepreneurs and fostering economic growth globally. It will focus on four areas- Energy and Infrastructure, Digital Economy and Financial Technology, Health and Life Sciences and Media and Entertainment.
India urges UN to declare 2018 as ‘International Year of Millets’
Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh has sent a proposal to United Nations for declaring 2018 as “International Year of Millets” to raise awareness among consumers, policy makers, and industry and research sector. Promotion of production and consumption of millets through conscious efforts at global level is likely to contribute substantially in the fight against targeted hunger and mitigate the effect of climate change in long run.

Rajkummar Rao, Newton wins big at Asia Pacific Screen Awards
Bollywood movie ‘Newton’ secured two wins with Rajkummar Rao winning the best actor award at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards in Brisbane, Australia. For ‘Newton’, Rajkummar Rao won the best actor award and Mayank Tewari and Amit V. Masurkar secured the best screenplay honor.
Newton was produced by Drishyam Films and directed by Amit V. Masurkar. The movie revolves around a young government clerk who is sent on election duty to a Maoist-controlled town and how the ideological struggle puts him in an awkward situation. India’s Lady of the Lake by director Haobam Paban Kumar won a special mention in the Cultural Diversity Award under the Patronage of UNESCO category.
Lionel Messi wins fourth European Golden Shoe Award
Lionel Messi drew level with Cristiano Ronaldo’s tally of four European Golden Shoes after receiving the award at a ceremony in Barcelona, Spain. The FC Barcelona superstar claimed the prize – handed to Europe’s top goalscorer for his 37 LaLiga strikes in 2016-17.
It is the fourth time Messi has taken the honors, after his successes in 2010, 2012 and 2013.
26th November is observed as the Constitution Day
On the day in 1949, the constitution was adopted which came into force on January 26, 1950 marking the beginning of a new era in the history of India. From 2015, the Government is observing 26th November as Constitution Day.
The HRD Ministry has launched a Digital Signature campaign to generate awareness on fundamental duties enshrined in the Constitution. People can join the campaign by filling a form online.
Maharashtra stands as the India’s single largest consumer of electricity
Maharashtra stands as the single largest consumer of electricity in India, followed by Uttar Pradesh and Telangana. With a demand for 75,169 million units (MU) during April to September, revealed data carried out by Central Electricity Authority. With the increasing demand, there was an increase of 8.6% over the demand for 69,216 MU in the year ago.
Among the larger states, Uttar Pradesh showed a growth of 15.37% year-on-year to 65,284 MU. Rajasthan and Telangana too showed good growth of 54.8% and 15.34%, respectively. Tripura with a consumption of around 1,000 MU saw its demand grow at a whopping 94.39%. This growth would have been higher but for the drag from some other states. Tamil Nadu saw growth slip by 0.42% from a year ago. Madhya Pradesh’s demand was almost unchanged, while Gujarat’s demand rose by only 0.57%.

Intensive Program launched to train Elected Women Representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions
The Minister of Women and Child Development, Smt Maneka Sanjay Gandhi launched an intensive training program for Elected Women Representatives (EWRs) of Panchayati Raj Institutions and Master Trainers, in New Delhi.This capacity building program is being organized by National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development (NIPCCD) of the WCD Ministry which will ultimately train approximately twenty thousand EWRs covering nearly 50 EWRs from each district by March, 2018.
Gopi Thonakal becomes 1st Indian man to win Asian Marathon Championship
Gopi Thonakal created history by becoming first Indian man to win Asian Marathon Championship. He achieved the feat in the 16th edition of the prestigious event in China. It is a biennial international competition in marathon road running for Asian athletes. It is organized by the Asian Athletics Association.
Axis Bank Launches Blockchain-based International Payment Service
Private sector lender Axis Bank launched an instant international payment services using Ripple’s enterprise blockchain technology solution for retail and corporate customers. Though an international offer, the bank is offering the facility only to its retail customers in the country to receive payments from the UAE-based Rak Bank and for its corporate customers to receive payments from Standard Chartered, Singapore.
President Ram Nath Kovind Inaugurates International Gita Mahotsav in Haryana
President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the International Gita Mahotsav 2017 in Kurukshetra, Haryana. The main objective behind Mahotsav is to spread the message of Gita to the world. Mauritius was partner country and Uttar Pradesh was partner state of the event. President Ram Nath Kovind also inaugurated an international seminar on Gita at the Kurukshetra University campus.
